Nicely Theatre Group's 25th Annual Spelling Bee

All shows are currently sold out! Our Sunday performance is currently reserved for rain date exchanges only. Stay tuned for possible ticket releases!

Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. Featuring a fast-paced, wildly funny, and touching book by Rachel Sheinkin and a fresh and vibrant score by William Finn, this bee is one unforgettable experience. An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vies for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.

Recommended for ages 12+.

Running Time is approximately 100 minutes, with no intermission.

The performance will take place outdoors on the lawn adjacent to the Berman Center for the Performing Arts, located at 6600 West Maple in West Bloomfield, Michigan (just north of Maple Road and just west of Drake Road). The seating is general admission, with no reserved seating. These tickets are for lawn seating only. Patrons are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Chairs will not be provided. Having a chair will help ensure that you have the best view of the stage. Masks will not be required outdoors.

The show will begin at 8:30 p.m. and people may enter the grounds as early as 7:30 and enjoy refreshments and musical entertainment before the show.

In the event of inclement weather, the show will be moved indoors to The Berman stage at no more than 50% audience capacity. Masks will be required indoors only if required by applicable State of Michigan mandates or JCC policy at the time of the performances.

We will contact you the day of the show via e-mail if we plan to move the show indoors due to weather. If at that time, you don't feel comfortable seeing the show indoors, you will have the opportunity to request a full refund. Refunds may take up to 10 business days.
